It’s the final countdown to Hot Chocolate San Diego on March 20! To celebrate, I’m counting down the top 5 reasons I’m excited to run the Hot Chocolate 15K.
#5 - The 15K Distance
One of the best parts of running a less-common race distance is that it’s easier to get a personal record, right? I’ve only ever run one other 15K race and that was last year’s Hot Chocolate virtual race. Nine miles is a really enjoyable distance for someone who usually runs half marathons (me). I’m excited to see if I can beat my best 15K time!
#4 - Free Race Photos
I only realized last week that Hot Chocolate San Diego will have free race photos! For someone who looks terrible in pretty much every race photo, I’m optimistically excited to download those photos on race day. Will this be the day that I get that perfect race snapshot?! You never know…
#3 - The Swag
Everyone knows the Hot Chocolate race series has good swag. I had some friends run the Hot Chocolate race a few years ago and I was super jealous of the jackets they were sporting afterwards. I made it a goal then to eventually sign up for this race and last year I got my chance. I’m looking forward to sporting a new HC jacket and putting that shiny chocolate-themed medal up on the wall!
#2 - Hot Chocolate
Do I run for the snacks? Maybe… maybe I do… I’ll never tell. But, they definitely had me when they said there’s a race with a cup of hot chocolate and chocolatey treats at the end! There’s supposed to be treats at aid stops along the course, too. I’m usually not one to grab random snacks in the middle of the race, so I’ll have to make a game-time decision, but I like knowing the option is there. Watch this space for photos of me with my finish line choco, though!
#1 - Racing IRL
Top of my list for what I am most excited for… racing the Hot Chocolate San Diego in real life! Last year this race was shifted to all virtual, like many races the last couple of years. I’ve heard the course in years past is pretty challenging, so I’m excited to put myself to the test on the real course. Best of all, I’m excited to be racing with others again and to cross another finish line with others who love racing.
There’s still time for you to register, too! Sign up for the Hot Chocolate San Diego (or one of the remaining Hot Chocolate races this season) and use code BRFINAL for $6 off and a free Buff. Check back here soon for my full race recap after 3/20/22.
